A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Sonya Mitchell is an Activist by nature. She loves helping and inspiring others as well as spending time being creative. Always taking others into consideration is a wonderful trait that Sonya feels she inherited from her late mother Jimmie Lee.
Sonya, whose late father George began calling her Sam when she was a baby, has always had a passion for writing and photography. She has won awards and made exceptional grades in writing at both Parker High School and Talladega College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. In addition, she is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Sonya has also served as a mentor for under-privileged girls at the Grace House Ministries and a Big Sister for the A. G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club as well as volunteered for the Birmingham Police Department.
Having many years of successful Sales experience as well as college recruiting experience from Talladega College, Sonya also decided to utilize her writing skills professionally by starting her own business, SOOTSME (Seeking Outstanding Opportunities Toward Success) which assisted others in career advancement.
Later, she co-started a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization by the name of ALLA, Inc. Also, under ALLA, Sonya has joined forces with other individuals and organizations to include the City of Birmingham, Mayor’s Office, Parents Against Violence, the Birmingham Police Department, Jefferson County District Attorney and several others in order to do one common task…save our youth.
